Statement
The Government of Yemen strongly condemns the ongoing terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi militias against commercial vessels in the Red Sea and international waterways, acting on behalf of the Iranian regime and its destructive agenda in the region.
The government affirms that these criminal attacks, which the Houthi militias publicly claim responsibility for, pose a serious threat to maritime security and risk causing devastating environmental disasters. These actions once again expose the rogue nature of this group, which prioritizes the interests of its foreign backers over the well-being of the Yemeni people, the sovereignty and safety of Yemen’s territory, and turns the country into a platform for threatening international peace and security, as well as global energy supplies.
The Government of Yemen holds the Houthi militias and the Iranian regime fully responsible for the economic, environmental, and humanitarian consequences resulting from this terrorist escalation. These actions deepen suffering, hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid, and disrupt the flow of essential goods desperately needed by millions of people across the region. Furthermore, they contribute to the militarization of regional waters and subject Yemen and its infrastructure to further destruction.
In light of this dangerous escalation, the Government of Yemen calls on the international community—particularly the UN Security Council and the United Nations—to take firm measures against this hostile conduct. This includes joining the designation of the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization and halting any political incentives or appeasement, while deterring Iran’s destabilizing interventions in Yemen and the region.
The Government of Yemen, while reaffirming its commitment to a just and comprehensive peace based on national, regional, and international frameworks, stresses that the success of any efforts to end the Houthi terrorist threat depends on supporting the internationally recognized government and its armed forces in their efforts to restore state institutions and enable them to exercise sovereignty over the entirety of Yemeni territory.
