"Masam" Removes 1,263 Mines and Unexploded Ordnance in One Week

The operations room of the Masam Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen announced that its teams managed to remove 1,263 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices from various regions in Yemen during the first week of March.

A statement issued by the operations room and published by the Masam media office explained that special task forces and rotating teams successfully cleared 1,227 items of unexploded ordnance, in addition to 33 anti-tank mines and 3 anti-personnel mines during the past week.

The statement indicated that the project's special task forces also managed to clear an area estimated at approximately 8,200 square meters of land during the same period, as part of ongoing efforts to secure areas affected by war remnants.

In a related context, the operations room reported that the project's teams have removed a total of 8,253 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices since the start of their work in the Midi District, as part of continuous operations to eliminate the threats posed by mines to civilians.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the project, Osama Al-Qusabi, announced that the project's teams have removed 547,215 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices since its launch at the end of June 2018 until the 6th of March.

Al-Qusabi explained, in a statement published by the Masam media office, that the project's field teams cleared 381,229 items of unexploded ordnance during the same period, in addition to 8,405 improvised explosive devices planted by the militias in various areas of the country.

He added that the project's teams also managed to remove 150,473 anti-tank mines, along with 7,108 anti-personnel mines, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the risks of mines to civilians.

Al-Qusabi pointed out that since the beginning of the project until March 6, 2026, Masam teams have successfully cleared 77,955,570 square meters of Yemeni land, contributing to the re-securing of vast areas that were contaminated with mines and war remnants.
